An email programma will make it easier for you to chekc your emails, and you dont have to startup your webbrowser and login to your email account, this will check for your email with 1 simpel press of the button.

IM stands for instant messaging and this will allow you to chat with your friends, the first to programmas in the following list combine alot of IM possibilites out there together, and the last one is really usefull for business chat but this is only for 1 IM chat only.

Media playback
This is software to play movies or music on your pc. If you don't like the windows media player you should try one of the following options:
- VLC
- Itunes
- Winamp
Image editing
If you would like edit images or create your own images on your pc you should definitly get a decent program to edit the images, since the default paint is not really big neither does it contain alot of functions for editing, youre better of trying one of the following programms:
- Photoshop
- Paint.net
- Gimp
Office suite
There are 2 options to choose as office suite, there is a paid version (Microsoft office) and there is a free version (Openoffice) however microsoft office contains more possibilities it also cost alot more then openoffice, and openoffice is still decent enough to write essays or anything else you want, you just have to spend more time on getting a good lay-out.
Advanced text editor
Many people aren't a fan of notepad and its a nice thing that there are more then just one notepad program out there, if you like to program you could use notepad++ which contains most of hte program languages, and is really easy to use. Also you could try ultraedit, both are prefered above the normal notepad since they work faster and are able to do alot more things than notepad.
A pdf-reader is required to read/create/open pdf's and there are different pdf readers out there, the first 2 in the list contain more security options then the last one in the list and thus they are higher ranked. Anyway here is the list:

Other useful software
If you wanna open .rar or .zip files you need a zip or rar opener and the most used openers are 7zip and winRar, however winrar will annoy you with that you are using the free version after 40 days.
And if you wanna keep your pc fast / clean you should get ccleaner and run it once in a while to check if there is space available to create or if you have useless software flying around.
Nowadays most of the people on the internet often reinstall their windows and after you are done there remains some question about what software to install, well when you are done reading this post you don't have to worry anymore because I will explain most of the info you need for the software you need on a fresh copy of windows!

I already have a post containing a list of recommedend antivirus programms, so i won't go in detail about what a virusscanner is etc..
But there are 2 categorys virusscanners, the free one and the paid one. Personally i prefer the paid one above the free ones but they will cost you aroudn 50$ a year, however the free ones are good for free antivirus.
For your pc i would recommedend to get:
- Eset Nod32
- Avast! antivirus
- AVG Free
Where avg obviously the free one is.
Anti-Malware
Anti-Malware will protect you against spyware and malware and there are some great scanners out there which are (almost) free. The scanners that i recommend using are
- Spybot
- MB Anti-Malware
Firewall
The virusscanner from Eset also includes a firewal and windows also have their own firewall included, but if you want to have a extra safety 'wall' you could try comodo, which is a recommedended firewall and it will help you to secure your computer.
Browser
Nowadays there are loads of browsers on the market and when you install windows you get internet explorerin the packet, however most of the people on the internet wont recommend internet explorer because of the vulneribiltys and the lack of add ons.
For windows you should be fine with one of the following 3 browsers:
- Firefox
- Opera
- Google Chrome
And for mac you should use safari, which is specialy build for mac.
If own a website it is important to place text on it. The text will help other people to find your website through search engines like google.com . When you are placing a text it is often adviced to place additional photo's or pictures to make it pleasant for the reader to read.
What is important when you are writing articles?
A few things are really important while writing content, I listed them in the following list:
- The text shouldn't be copy pasted from another website. Also you can't litterly copy a text from books or newspapers. This means that your text has to be unique to get new visitors. Ofcourse you are allowed to use texts from other people as a source, and it would help the authors if you give credits to them at the bottom of your text.
- The text must be pleasing to read (place pictures, not too complicated senctences etc...).
- The text must contain relevant information (this will attract more readers).
- The grammer must be decent enough to not stumble upon every sentence.
- Use headers which contain keywords, this enables your articles to be found easier with search engines.
- The text shouldn't be too long, not boring and neither should it be too short. If you write about 300 - 400 words on a page it will be enough.
Where to find text for your website
If you don't have time to write text for your website, and you are prepared to pay for unique texts than you could hire a textwriter who could write original texts for your websites. However most of the time this will cost you some money and they aren't that cheap. So there are a few possibilities:
- You could ask someone in your environment who would like to write. You could ask that person to write texts together or you could ask him/her for advice
- You could write the text on your own.
- You could hire someone to write posts for you (for example: textbroker is a good site to get writers).
Writing texts by yourself
To write content for you site you have to keep te following things in your mind:
- Write down on which page you would like to write what topic, this will keep your website clean.
- Make sure that your site has easily switches to other articles (maybe tabpages?).
- Sum the most important information together on the first page.
- Read other articles about the topic that you would like to write about to get a impression what attracts other people.
- Keep the text short and simple, but don't make it too short.
- Avoid moving pictures and flash-banners, unless it addds something to your site.
- Are we 24/7 available?
- How much does everything cost?
- Do we deliver our meals?
- And so on...
The power of headers
You probably noticed already that i am using headers, this makes it easier to read and it makes the articles attractive to see.
- Post short block of texts with headers, and some white lines between every paragraph, this will give a calmer look to your articles.
- Use a font that is easy to read and don't post too much text that is one of the three styles that i used in this sentence (fat, cursive or underlined).
- If you wrote too much text look back and think of things that you could erase or things which needs extra attention. Also don't use small fonts size 12 or 14 is often the best thing to choose. For the header you have to change the font/size/colour to draw the attention of readers.
- If you think that you are done writing the article re-read them and ask people in your neighborhoud to read it and write down what they think that is clear, and what must be added also you could ask them to spot grammer mistakes.
- When you received the feedback improve your text!
Photo's on your website
It is recommedend to place some pictures/videos on your website, not too much and not next to nothing. You must see it like this, people woud like to stay on a site where there is something to read or to learn. They will visit your site as long as there is something to do or if there is something which is intresting to read. Also when people are surfing the internet most of the time they are looking for information / services or products. Try to give men what they are looking for. Be clear in your messages and make sure that you are easy to contact when people would like to contact you. Photo's / video's or pictures are another addition to your article.

In this post I will talk about two things the first thing I will talk about is : 'What are the most commonly used methods by hackers?' and last but not least I will post something about how you could protect your website against hackers.
Top 5 methods used by hackers
Hackers nowadays use alot of methods to enter your website and sometimes even hack your personal information or they will use different methods to dump your database and get all the passwords. Below you will find a list of the most commonly used tools by hackers to try and steal your site's information
- Breach in on the web e-mail to receive username and passwords (they use so called 'bruteforcers' this are programs which uses a big list of passwords and trys all the passwords very fast after eachother to try to login).
- Listening to your phone calls and hopefully you will send a unsecured password/username (also known as 'Social Enginering', this means that they will try to convince you that they need to get your personal information for something or to check if your site is secure).
- 'SQL(i) injection (SQL injection is an attack in which malicious code is inserted into strings that are later passed to an instance of SQL Server for parsing and execution. Any procedure that constructs SQL statements should be reviewed for injection vulnerabilities because SQL Server will execute all syntactically valid queries that it receives. Even parameterized data can be manipulated by a skilled and determined attacker.)
- 'PHP injection'
- 'HTML injection' (together with php injection they are almost identical to the sql injection instead they are using php/html codes right now).
The first option is easily prevented by making your password a hard to guess one and just don't save your password on your pc but write it somewhere down and then hide the paper in a document or a bundled map or something like that. Also you could remove the e-mails which contains trusted information, this will give the hacker a hard time to find important information in the email.
To prevent the opportunity for hackers to get your password through option 2 (spying on your network traffic) you should only type your username and password if you are on a secured webaddres. You can see if a webaddres is secured when the header in the url contains https:// the 's' stands for secure. If the header only contains http:// it means that it is a unsecured connection.
De last 3 options (3,4 and 5) are all direct attacks to the websites. This is a case where a programmer is really important and you must tell it if you are getting attacked. In one of the following articles I will give tips on how you could prevent these kind of attacks (the article will be called PHP security for beginners).
Hotmail is one of the most used e-mailservices in the world and it is free! Hotmail is offerd by Microsoft and it has more then 200 million users. Below you will find a overview from the history, a small explenation about creating an account and more...
History
In 1996 Jack Smith and Sabeer Bathia launched the website Hotmail. It became extremely succesfull and in 1997 Microsoft bought the e-mailservice for 400 million dollars. Hotmails was created in the first place to show that your e-mail account shouldn't be depending on your internet provider.
Rivals from Hotmail are Yahoo! Mail and Gmail. Gmail provided a inbox with the disk space of 1 GB in april 2007 and now it became even moer. By the time when Gmail offerd the 1GB disk space hotmail only had 2mb disk space.
After 10 years after the launch of Hotmail Microsoft created Windows Live Mail. The change from Hotmail to Windows Live Mail was not been accepted by the user so after a few months they changed the name to Windows Live Hotmail. The update for Hotmail created a new interface and implementation of the AJAX-technology. This new technology was required because the older version of Hotmail became really slow. The main reason for this were the billion accounts; Hotmail couldnt handle these enormous amount of members. In 2008 Microsoft updated Windows Live Hotmail again. They added a few new functions (new theme's and messenger (MSN) was implemented in the browser) with this update Hotmail became a little bit faster again.
Hotmail also offerd a paid account, this is called Hotmail Plus. Hotmail Plus users allows more functions like:
- You could send bigger attachements
- No ads
- Possibility to control your mail through POP
How to create a account
It is pretty easy to sign up to Hotmail you jsut have to follow the following steps:
- Go to www.hotmail.com.
- In the right corner click on register now.
- You will see a new page and here you could choose what kind of mail you want (@live.com, @hotmail.com etc..)
- When you finished filling in all the forms click on i agree and voila your done!
The use of Windows Live Hotmail
If you wanna login to your account you just head back to www.hotmail.com, there you will see 2 textboxes where you can put your emailaddres and password. When you logged in you will see the homepage, here you can go to your inbox, spam folder, concepts, sent items and deleted items. When you are in your inbox you see a menu which contains the option to make a new message, create a map/group, reply to massage, delete messages and to print messages
Windows Live Hotmail also contains a function to change the interface to your liking. You can change the colour, size of the text and even the backgrond for your theme.
New searchfunction
In windows Live Hotmail you have a usefull search function. which enables you to search through your emails.
Add your Hotmail to Microsoft Outlook
Another way to read your message from your Hotmailaddress is to couple your emailaddres to a program called Outlook, to do this follow these steps:
- Download Microsoft Outlook.
- Open Outlook and in the menu open the 'file' files manager.
- Go to the tab 'E-mail' and press on the button 'new'.
- Into the popup you see right now check the 'Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP' and press next.
- Insert your name, e-mailaddres and your password and press next again.
- Outlook then is going to receive your mails, now you could open the mails in your Outlook program and open them on www.hotmail.com.
To export your contactpersons to Outlook you must export them through Windows Live Hotmail (click on the page contactpersons and then on Manage -> export) and then import them through Outlook (in the menu Manage -> import and export)
Problems with Windows Live Hotmail
What do you have to do when you lost your password?
- The best thing to do first is press 'Forgot My Password' on the login screen from Hotmail.
- On the next page you must enter your e-mailaddres(= Windows Live ID) and a captcha(picture with images as protection).
- After this there are different kind of possibilities but you probablby get one of the following 2:
- You must enter your country and secret question to check your identity.
- Or they will send an email with instructions to reset your password.
- If you haven't set a secret question your password will be send to the alternative e-mailadress (that you had to enter when you created your account)
But what if you don't have a secret question and you lost your alternative e-mailaddres? Then you have to contact the Hotmail Staff. You can contect them here, they will help you.
Alternative
There are alot different alternatives for a hotmailaddres nowadays. You could use other e-mail services like Yahoo! Mail or Gmail. Also you could use the email from your provider or if you have a website you could use the e-mailaddres from your site.

One of the most commonly utilised tools many of us use on a day to day
basis is good old Skype. Though many have tried to conquer this VOIP,
few have even come close to succeeding. Of course, it’s always nice to
mix things up and that’s why DailyUpdatesForYou have put together some great Skype tips
for you to have a look at.
What is skype?
Skype is a Voice-Over IP (VOIP) program from the company Skype Global which allow users to contact each other through messages and phone calls.Skype is a free program and it looks alot like other chat programs out there. Skype has a so called 'buddy list' which allow users to see the status from their buddys (for example: you get a notification when someone logs in). Skype claims to be spyware (see previous post to get a little explenation about spyware) free and has been code by Kazaa: Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis.
Hidden emoticons
Most of the users only know the emoticons that will show up when you press the smiley button above your textbox but that are not all of the emoticons that skype uses. Below is a list of skype icons which are hidden in the smiley interface but when you type the right words they will pop up.

Turn off the emoticons
If you don't like seeing the animated emoticons you could turn them off. When you turn them off you will see the text that is supposed to call the emoticon (for example: (tmi) instead of the (tmi) smiley). To turn off the emoticons in Skype and live in a world closer to the telegraph head to :
- Go to tools (in the menubar in the top right corner of the skype menu).
- Click on options.
- Click on the IM & SMS header.
- Click on IM Appearance.
- And here you can check/uncheck the option to show emoticons.
If you don't like to let other people know that you are typing something this will help you, it will allow you to remove the pencil that the other users see when you are writing / erasing something. To do this simply follow these steps:
- Go to tools (in the menubar in the top right corner of the skype menu).
- Click on options.
- Click on the IM & SMS header.
- Make sure that you are on the tab IM settings and click on show advanced options.
- There is a option which contains the text Show when im typing and uncheck the textbox
- Voila your done now nobody knows when you are typing something!
Skype Tips for Edits
If you’ve written a message and there is a typo all you have to do is click on the up cursor and the message will appear back in the edit box. You can then just make the changes required and then resend it. This eliminates the embarrassment of misspelled words.
But when you are in a group chat you could also edit the messages from other people in the group (only when you are a higher rank. The rankins in a group chat are : Creator - Master - Helper - User - Listener). To do this you have to right click on the text message you would like to edit and click on edit message. Now you can type whatever you wanted that person to type, however the edited notifcation still appears on the right side next to the time.
Accept calls without a click of the mouse
If you cant find your mouse and someone is calling you you can press ALT + PageUp to accept the phonecall and if you wanna use your webcam to when someone is calling you only have to press one extra key, the CTRL key. So the combination to answer with your video will be CTRL + ALT + PageDown.
Add a new text line to typeWhen you are in need of an extra line to type and you don't want to post the message already you could press the key combination CTRL + ENTER or the key combination SHIFT + ENTER both give the same result.
Send contacts to other persons
To share a contact with a friend you simply drag the contact into the chatfram or you use the button with the '+' text. When you press the '+' button you will see a popup where you could choose to add the contacts that you want and start a group chat.

There is nothing as annoying as getting a virus while you were surfing on the internet. To prevent alot of trouble it is smart to install a virusscanner or to setup a firewall on your computer. It is both very easy to do and you can even get a free virusscanner if you want.
What is a virusscanner?
A virusscanner is a program which you could install on your computer to keep it safe from viruses. You'll need a virusscanner because there is alot of 'unwanted trash' which you could download to your computer without asking for it. Besides viruses there are other dangerous things which could damage your computer for example: Trojan horses, worms, logic bombs and spyware. First we start to explain what the different kind of viruses are.
Trojan horses
A trojan horse is a program or a file which looks tempting but when you have it installed on your pc it will do everything to steal your personal information (named after the horse of Troje) and it will try to control your pc. An example of a trojan horse are RAT's (Remote Acces Tools). Trojan horses are often send as a attachment from a e-mail, hid as a love letter or as pornographic files.
Worms
Worms work the same as a trojan horse (the program looks tempting but once on the computer it tries to destroy it) except that worms can work on their own. A worm spreads through unsecured networks and they will slow down your pc.
A logic bomb
A logic bomb isn't that commen nowadays. However it still is annoying if you have a logic bomb in your list of installed software. As the name says a logic bomb works like a bomb, after a set amount of time has passed the bomb will delete software from your pc.
Spyware
Spyware isn't bad for your computer but it will reduce your privacy. Spyware will trace what you are doing and what kind of websites you visit and the virus will save it to a database / file on your computer. When the creator of the spyware got the amount of info he wanted he can sell it for a huge amount of money to certain company's.
Virusscanners
A usefull protection against viruses and spyware is a virusscanner. However some of the virusscanners out there are pretty expensive, so i will create both a top 5 of the free virusscanners and a top 5 of the paid virusscanners. When you are looking for a virusscanner make sure that you get a trusted virusscanner. Before you start downloading your virusscanner it is clever to to a little bit of research about the virusscanner that you are planning to download and read about experience from other users.

When you installed a virusscanner on your pc it is protected against virusses but it is important to update your virusscanner once in a while because when time passes hackers develop new sorts of virusses with different algorithms on which your current (outdated) virusscanner is not prepared for. So when you update your virusscanner it will protect you again versus the newest virusses.
Almost any virusscanner shows a popup there is a update available which you could download with a simple press of the button. When you are using a free virusscanner it is important to check the website of the producer of your virusscanner to see if they have released any updates for your scanner!

Tip 1
Adjust for best performance
This means that you change the looks from windows vista/7 to the older looks from windows xp which will drain less memory and energy from your processor, ram.
Follow the steps below to adjust windows for the best performance
- Go to the start menu.
- Click on the control panel.
- Click on 'System and Security'.
- Click on 'System'.
- On the left side you see 'Advanced System Settings' Click it.
- A popup will apear, go to the 'Advanced' tab.
- You will see 4 buttons, press the button which contains the text 'Settings' , it is the first button and belongs to the square with the name performance.
- A new popup will appear, you have to click the option 'Adjust for best performance' (it is the 3th option).
- Press Apply and your done!
Tip 2
Remove the background
This won't increase your performence significantly but it will help a little bit. Because your background must be reloaded everytime you move to the desktop. If you change the background to 1 colour only (for example: black) it will reduce the time your pc needs to load the background.
To do this follow the following steps:
- Go to your Desktop.
- Right click on your dekstop and press Personalize.
- A new popup will appear and in the left corner of the popup you will see the Desktop background link (it shows your current background) click on this link to continue.
- In the dropdown menu (next to Browse) select the option Solid Colors chose this option and a new selection will load.
- Now just chose a background colour that you like and click on Save changes and your done!
Tip 3
Stop useless programs
Most of the time you have programs running in the background which you don't need (for example when you're gaming you could close explorer.exe however you must start the task again if your done with the game). If you close down those applications you will obtain some free ram memory and your CPU will be able to do heavier tasks.
Please follow these steps if you wanna shutdown useless programs:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Click on the Processes tab.
- Here you can kill all the processes you want with the End process button.
Tip 4
Uninstal unneeded programs
Some people (including me) download programs and after they are done using them they don't remove the programs which they installed. This will take alot of disk space over time and how less disk space you have on your pc / laptop how slower it will become because it has less space to load a new file and it must load all the other files when you are rebooting / starting up your pc / laptop.
To remove unneeded programs you have to:
- Go to your Start menu.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Click on 'Uninstall a program', it is in the left corner of the popup.
- Remove your unwanted programs and your done!
If you want a good removing program DailyUpdatesForYou recommedend to use 'Best Removal Tool' because this will check for your registery files too, however you have to make a backup of your registery because it might be possible that it removes a registery key shared with other software which makes the other software useless.
Tip 5
Deleting your temp folder
Your temp (temporary) folder contains files which are only used temporary (as the name says). In this folder you could expect files that you downloaded and instead of save as you ran it as execute. When you download something and you press on execute windows will save it to your tmp folder so you can run it from there. Your temp folder could contain alot of files which are unneeded so you can deleted everything inside the folder.
To do so please follow these steps:
- Go to your start menu.
- In the box where you can search for software/folder type %Temp%, this will open up your temporary folder (because windows hide the folder for normal windows users).
- Delete every file in the Temp folder.
- And last but not least empty your recycle bin to delete the files forever!
